Masks for dark circles

Dark circles are those dark circles that appear on the skin under the eyes, giving the face a tired and fatigued appearance that is quite unsightly. They occur due to poor blood circulation in the area and thinning of the skin around the eyes, as it is much more sensitive and delicate than that of other parts of the face. Its appearance is also associated with different factors, such as genetics, aging, insufficient rest, poor eating habits, hormonal changes, stress or the presence of certain diseases.

Potato mask

The potato or potato mask has become a revolutionary treatment to remove dark circles and reduce their visibility immediately. This widely consumed tuber has in its composition a series of whitening agents that fight the coloration of dark circles and an enzyme, called catechol oxidase, which reduces inflammation in the area and illuminates the skin. In addition, by containing vitamin C , it firms and nourishes the tissues.

Needed:

  • 1 raw potato

Preparation: cut the potato in half, extract a little pulp with the help of a knife and mash with a fork. Place the mashed potato on the dark circles and leave for 15 minutes.

Cucumber and green tea mask

Another of the most effective homemade masks for dark circles is the one that combines the properties of cucumber with those of green tea. Cucumber is a very refreshing and astringent food, making it ideal for reducing dark circles. For its part, green tea is a great antioxidant that keeps the skin around the eye area young and reduces inflammation, which is why it is also useful in case of eye bags, crow’s feet and swollen eyelids.

Needed:

  • ½ cucumber
  • 1 green tea bag

Preparation: make the green tea infusion by boiling the bag in half a cup of water. When ready, let it rest to cool. Cut the cucumber into thin slices and crush them together with the green tea. Apply the resulting mask on the dark circles leaving it to rest for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Chamomile and yogurt mask

Chamomile tea is a good natural anti-inflammatory widely used to alleviate various eye conditions and is also beneficial for dark circles. It allows to reduce redness and swelling in the area, making those dark circles not so noticeable. To enhance the effects of chamomile against dark circles, it can be combined with a little yogurt, a product with whitening and moisturizing properties.

Needed:

  • 1 chamomile tea bag
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt

Preparation: make the chamomile tea and, when it has cooled, add the yogurt and stir. Apply the cream obtained on the eye contour and leave it to act for 15 or 20 minutes.

Apple, strawberry and kiwi mask

Apple, strawberry and kiwi are three fruits that are often used separately to eliminate dark circles and revitalize the skin around the eyes. Therefore, if they are used together, the results are much better. In combination, you get a homemade mask that deflates the skin, provides antioxidants and vitamins and fights the black spots under the eyes in a surprising way.

Needed:

  • ½ kiwi
  • 2 strawberries
  • ½ apple

Preparation: chop the fruit and blend until they are completely integrated. Apply the mask on the area with dark circles and leave for 15 to 20 minutes.

Almond oil and lemon mask

Almond oil is rich in vitamin E and fatty elements that help eliminate dark circles, nourish the skin and rejuvenate the eye contour. Lemons contain a lot of vitamin C, a nutrient that lightens the skin and, therefore, can reduce its visibility.

Needed:

  • 1 tablespoon of almond oil
  • ½ lemon

Preparation: squeeze the lemon and mix its juice with the almond oil. Apply the mask on the dark circles with the help of a cotton pad and leave it on overnight.

Coffee mask

A homemade mask for dark circles that mimics the most effective commercial anti-dark circles creams is the one made from coffee. Caffeine is a substance that reactivates the blood circulation of the skin around the eyes, is decongestant, reduces puffiness and has anti-aging properties.

Needed:

  • 2 tablespoons of ground coffee
  • 1 tablespoon of rose water

Preparation: mix the ground coffee with the rose water to create a homogeneous paste. Apply the mask to the dark circles by tapping it lightly with the fingertips and leave for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Tips to avoid dark circles

  • Get enough rest and sleep each day (between 7 and 8 hours).
  • Avoid stress and nervousness.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated and eliminate toxins.
  • Avoid bad habits that contribute to the appearance of dark circles, such as alcohol consumption, tobacco and drinking a lot of coffee.
  • Wash your face in the morning, doing it from time to time with cold water to reduce inflammation of the skin and promote blood circulation.
  • Moisturize the eye contour with specific creams for the area, those enriched with vitamin E are a good option.
  • Follow a healthy diet, in which fresh vegetables and fruits abound, consume adequate plant proteins and foods that improve blood circulation.
  • Reduce salt intake to avoid fluid retention in the area under the eyes.
  • Remove make-up from your eyes every day before going to sleep.
