Mythomania

Mythomania, also known as fantasy pseudology, is a psychopathology in which the individual feels an uncontrollable urge to lie. This disorder is described as a condition in which an individual becomes a compulsive liar, often for no reason, to the point of believing their own lies.

Compulsive lying is not part of typical human behavior , although we have all lied on occasion and in defense of a specific cause, they are isolated episodes that are generally not associated with any psychological disorder.

People who lie compulsively generally have another type of major character disorder or suffer from depression, low self-esteem and emotional insecurity . However, at times, individuals may be lying simply to make their lives seem more exciting, when in reality they themselves believe that their lives are unpleasant or boring.

The stories told tend to present the mythomaniac favorably. He prioritizes his own person, fervently adorning it and telling stories that present them as heroes or victims. For example, a person suffering from mythomania can be presented in his false narrative as someone super brave who overcame many incredible obstacles or as someone with great power and wealth; but it can also be presented as someone who has suffered a lot, that unforgivable things have been done to her in her life and yet continues to fight. Perhaps in these cases the mythomaniac person is exerting a certain type of emotional blackmail on the other, trying to make him accept it or prioritize it with his false lies.

Most of the personal relationships of mythomaniacs are weak and fail to come to fruition, as they fail when the sufferer does not want to face their condition and projects their psychopathology onto the other.
